Yes. For entertainment, surround sound is great. For gaming, however, you will want to make sure that you set your sound up to be good for gaming. This is especially important if you have an active gaming room or game room.
If you only have your gaming room turned on, you might think that you can get away with setting up your sound, but that’s not really the case. The best surround sound setups are the ones that use a subwoofer and a surround speaker. You can get great results with a good subwoofer, but a bad one can make sounds that are not very pleasant to listen to.
The first thing to do is to set up your sound system to be as good for gaming as possible, and then the next thing to do is to set up your speakers so that the sound they produce will be the most pleasing for gaming.
I’ve been using the seven.1 surround sound setup for years now. I’m not sure what the current “standards” of surround sound are, but I do know that the best setup I’ve gotten is the M-Audio PSG-700, which is a subwoofer and a pair of surround speakers.
7.1 surround sound is the surround sound for gaming, and is really the only way to listen to it well, without it being too distracting. For gaming, the surround sound should be the only sound you hear to get the most out of the game. That doesn’t mean that you cant hear background music, or sound effects from dialogue, or music, or ads. All of the above.
It sounds like a lot of the background music you’re hearing in the trailer has to do with Colt’s backstory. It’s the music that plays when he’s being confronted by the Visionaries. Because of this, I think surround sound shouldn’t be the only thing you hear when playing through Deathloop.
I have to imagine, the reason this is cool is because it isnt very realistic. The majority of the game sounds like a game, and not something that you would actually be playing. The game, is actually a simulation of the way our brains process music. As such, it should be treated like any other video game, and not be considered the pinnacle of gaming and the epitome of surround sound.
The problem with this, is that people with serious gaming problems (like me) have to hear what it sounds like, when it sounds like something that you would actually be playing. If this is your first time playing a game, it’s understandable that you might have had a hard time figuring out the difference between different music types. I can understand this being a problem for new gamers. But for older gamers, it’ll probably just make you feel like your ears are bleeding.
With the addition of surround sound to 7.1 you can now have the surround channels at the top, bottom, and sides of your speakers. While sound quality is still a little lacking, this is one of those things that will definitely add a lot of value to your gaming experience and will make the game more enjoyable to play.
Another issue I see with surround sound is that it can create a very unnatural and unnatural feeling. For example, if you have a game that is very loud with a lot of sound, you can sometimes actually hear yourself breathing in the game. In this case it may be due to the game having a particularly loud soundtrack, but it’s more likely that the sound is simply too loud.
