What is the most essential ingredient that makes jam delicious? Jam. There are many things that go into making jam, but the key ingredients (aside from the sweet berries) are… water. The sugar and acid in fruit and the alcohol in the molasses are the elements that make jam so delicious. But why does sugar and alcohol have to be the most important ingredients in jam? The other ingredients I believe are equally important and are what make jams delicious.
You just put the fruit, sugar, and acid and the molasses in a pan and heat them until they are all liquefied. When that happens, all the sugar and acid are dissolved and the fruit is ready to be added. The molasses are the acid, and they start to breakdown when they get heated. That’s when the sugar and alcohol take over.
This is one of the reasons I love jam making. It’s such a hands-on process that you can’t get the same results without all the involved ingredients. It’s the way nature does things. I just wish the ingredients would be more accessible. Also, the use of sugar and alcohol makes it a bit clunky.
The process of sugar and alcohol being boiled down is known as alcoholization, and is the exact opposite of what you would think. It basically means that if you make sugar syrup, you’re making sugar, but it’s been boiled down to alcohol. The end product is much smoother, but it’s still sugar.
Most sugar is not actually called sugar, its called sugar syrup. Sugars are a complex mixture of sugar and water, and yes, it can be boiled down to alcohol, but it’s not really the same thing.
Jamal, the owner of a small cafe across from the main Arkane office, is a self-proclaimed sugar nazi who will happily share his knowledge about alcoholization at any opportunity. In this case, he’s been researching the process for this video. It looks like he has a pretty good handle on the process and the effects it has on the environment.
With all of the information about how sugar can harm the environment being spread around, one would think that Jamal would be a little nervous about the whole thing. That is until you see the big smile on his face. He tells us he knows that all of the alcohol is stored in large plastic drums, in which a large amount of it is boiled down to a syrup.
What happens when you boil it down? Well, the sugar is converted into alcohol and then the alcohol is sent to be evaporated. The water that is left behind is then absorbed by the environment. This process is called evaporation and it has been proven that this process can reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by 20% and prevent damage to your health and the health of your family.
As you might expect, it’s not just the water that evaporates but also the alcohol. The alcohol is then sent to a distiller where it is converted into a syrup that is then used to make whatever it is that you’re supposed to drink. This syrup is then sent back to the same distiller for another step that converts the alcohol into a liquid that is then released into the environment.
