So if you’re a western New Yorker, you’re probably a bit surprised to learn that west allis is the local newspaper for the town of West Allis, New York. Located in the Hudson River Valley along the Hudson River just east of Albany, the area has one of the most beautiful natural settings in the country. The region boasts a vibrant arts scene, a thriving food scene, and a rich history that dates back to the early 19th century.
It’s not uncommon for newspapers to begin printing in the late 19th century. The East Side Press, for example, began print production in the late 1800s. Its first issue appeared in 1851. While the West Side Press was founded in 1869, it was the East Side Press that became the largest newspaper in the Hudson Valley and eventually the largest newspaper in New York State. The West Side Press was started by German immigrant Jacob D.
Dankman, who later became the publisher of the West Side Press.
When the East Side Press began print production, they printed over 450,000 copies of what would become the first and only print-on-demand newspaper in New York City, the New York Daily Press. Their first issue of The Times, which first appeared in 1851, was the first print-on-demand newspaper of the time.

If you don’t know the history of the Daily Press, here it is. It was started by a German immigrant Jacob Dankman. He was a small time journalist who lived in the East End of Manhattan. He moved to New York City and worked for the Daily Press in 1852, but he did get started on a local newspaper. He started his own newspaper called the New York Daily Mirror, which was published in lower Manhattan between 1854 and 1857.
The Daily Press would publish up to 10 times a day, with a Saturday edition and a Sunday edition. For example, in 1854, there was a Saturday edition of the Daily Press. In 1857, there was a Sunday edition of the Daily Press.
West allis was originally a part of the city of New York. West allis started as a village on the west side of the Hudson. West allis was home to the original Daily Mirror, The New York Daily Mirror, and The New York Tribune.
